Reykjavík Arts Festival’s closing event is the R&B inspired jazz concert of triple Grammy Award winner and pre- eminent drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Accompanying her is a group of seven superb jazz musicians.
Terri Lyne Carrington is considered among the world’s best jazz drummers. She has worked with many of the greatest stars of jazz; Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, Cassandra Wilson and Dianne Reeves.
Carrington is a triple Grammy Award winner. She won her first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2012, for The Mosaic Project which included some of the most prominent female jazz artists of the last few decades: Esperanza Spalding, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nona Hendryx, Geri Allen and several others. In 2015 Carrington released The Mosaic Project: LOVE and SOUL.
Among the seven superb jazz musicians performing with Carrington in Iceland are vocalists Lizz Wright and Elena Pinderhughes, flautist and vocalist.
Lizz Wright is an American singer and composer whose music and performance incorporate jazz, blues, R&B and folk music, strongly rooted in the gospel music that played a great role in Wright’s musical upbringing. She has released five solo albums that have been enthusiastically received and praised by critics.
Twenty year old vocalist and flautist Elena Pinderhughes has performed at Carnegie Hall, The White House and The Kennedy Center. She was only eleven years old when she recorded her first album and has since perfomed with musicians like Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding and Carlos Santana.
