Mosaic is a reflection on the alternating dimensions of man. A self-portrait by visual artist Thorarinn Ingi Jónsson, Steinunn’s son, will also be included in the show. He is the model for her figures.
Steinunn has been a professional artist for almost 40 years. She has worked on figurative sculpture from the beginning of her career. That set her works apart from her contemporaries in the Icelandic visual art scene. Her figures are androgynous symbols of humanity. They are organic and explosive in their formation. Man´s conversation with nature, his surroundings and society are an integral part of her art.
Throughout her long career Steinunn has received many awards and among them is the Order of the Falcon awarded by the President of Iceland in 2009 for her contribution to Icelandic and international art. Steinunn has had numerous solo shows worldwide as well as participated in a number of group exhibitions and art fairs. Her works are in many important private and public collections worldwide.
During the opening reception on May 21st at 5:15 pm, performance artist Anna Richardsdóttir will present a cleaning performance on Steinunn´s sculpture outside the gallery.
